About the WYD
Taking a Parish/Deanery Group to the World Youth Day
The benefit to your parish of taking a group of young people to the World Youth Day is huge. The prospect of having a group that has shared an amazing week, and experienced the enthusiasm of young people from a global Church that are so committed to their faith could change the dynamics in your parish.
Choice of Trip Options
You have two options - you can either promote the WYD trip to your parishioners and they can book directly with us, or you can promote it as a parish trip and we will still provide everything you need, we will just make sure you are all staying together. If you want to anyone to go who is under 18 you will need to promote it as a parish trip and you will need to take responsibility for anyone under 18 - see Responsibility section below.
We are happy to offer the WYD accommodation which will be rough and ready - but our team have all been on World Youth Days and stayed in the WYD accommodation and we're all happy enough to go back and do it again! However, for any parishes that want to bring under 18s you will need to follow your Diocesan Child Protection Policy and as part of this you will need to know where you staying. Therefore, we have got various different type of accommodation which you can book in advance from camping to hotels - but we would honestly recommend the camping above anything else. Having been on many World Youth Days, we feel the space, the layout and the calmness will provide an amazing experience for pilgrims.
We thought that having a campsite would be a cheap second-best, however, when we visited we immediately asked if we could book it for the following week for the staff and their families so we can relax after the trip - even those people who will travel back to the UK with coaches wanted to come back and stay in the campsite. That's how good it is! However, we do have to give priority to schools and parish groups that have under 18s - so if you are only bringing over 18s you may find that the campsite option is not possible.
If you really feel that you don't want to camp or have the WYD accommodation then please let us know as we do have the option of hostels, university lecture room floors, hotels - but all of these will significantly increase the cost of the trip
Events at the Campsite
One of the biggest benefits with the campsite is that we can set it up how we want it and we will hopefully be able to offer spaces for you to use and possibly some events at the campsite. The Polish tourist board suggested we could have basic Polish language classes, Polish cooking and we will also try to have music and prayer so we can have a calm mini-festival feel to the campsite.
Travel is by coach - if you feel that this is not suitable for your group do let us know as we are happy to be flexible - but going by plane will significantly increase the price. The price of £450 is based on coaches leaving London, however, if your Parish/Deanery Group is big enough we will be able to collect you from your area. Or we think it is highly likely that we will be offering pick up points around the country - but we will have to wait until we get bookings in before we can give details about this. This may add to the price slightly but our hope is that this extra will be negligible.
Resources to help you promote the WYD in you Parish/Deanery
We have put together resources to help you promote the World Youth Day to your parishioners (including the video on the homepage) and we will continue to provide resources over the coming month to generate interest and to prepare people for the WYD.
Responsibility & Child Protection
We will provide everything you need to offer a safe trip - however, if pilgrims are over 18 they are responsible for themselves. If you decide to bring parishioners that are under 18 you will need to take responsibility for them. This will mean your Diocesan Child Protection Policy will take presidence over anything else and you will be required to bring a suitable number of leaders to satisfy your Diocesan Child Protection Policy. We will be very happy to help and our staff will be DBS checked - but your parish and your leaders will be responsible for any pilgrims that are under 18. Therefore, its up to you whether you want to bring people under 18 or not.
Costs, Booking & Deposits
The cost for the main package will be £450. We may have to charge slightly more if you want to be collected from your parish but this should be between £10-£20 per person for a full coach. We are aware that you will have to book places for teachers and you will have your own costs so you are welcome to charge extra for tickets to cover your necessary costs
We do have limited places so we would advice booking as soon as possible. To book for parish you will need to put down a deposit of £95 per person for as many people as possible. If there is space you can add to the number in the group. This will allow us to make sure your accommodation and coach is booked.
All insurances will be in place for the trip. This includes travel insurance for each person and all tour operator inssurances.
